Next To Me You Lie So Still (Couplets) Poem by Gert Strydom

Next To Me You Lie So Still (Couplets)

(in answer to Nel Noordzij)

Next to me you lie so still deep in your sleep,
this impression in my memories I want to keep

while you are next to me for another while,
your face, your body and soul are fragile,

where for moments my glance stop on your face
and tranquillity I see, of worries there are not a trace,

and in me there is no kind of alarm,
although in the mind's eye a child may be in your arm.
