New Life Begins Poem by Emillie DeVere

New Life Begins

Thunder rolls through the garden,
A continued cannonade
The wind howls, prickled by the thorns of a rose
Daffodils tremble from fright, as lightning hits the pond
The orchids fold in agony, whipped by the merciless rain
Lilies stand tall and proud, refusing to bow to the tyrant wind
The thunder grumbles, expressing its fury
A bolt of light strikes the old, oak tree, waking up the fire elves
They dance across the garden,
Burning with a fiery passion
Circling around,
Trapping the oasis of peace and transforming it into,
The fiery pits of hell.

Blackened and dead
Doused by the rain
Dried by the wind
Eerily quiet and grave
A tiny crack sounds like a cannon, echoing through the plains
A little shell, hidden among the rubble,
The sole survivor of the consuming flames-
Breaks open,
A wee body rolls out,
Gets up, and stretches its limbs.
And so, new life begins
