Neither Rare Nor Uncommon Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Neither Rare Nor Uncommon

Many have been the ones,
Accustomed to facing challenges.
Obstacles to overcome.
And alone to make their own decisions.
They are not rare.

Indecisive.
Blame to claim it makers.
Fault to find it seekers.
And those who accuse others,
For finding a way...
To work things out by themselves.
Will seldom admit,
These are also the very same people...
Who came to their assistance,
With a helping them out of their dilemmas.
This is also not a rarity.
But more common for some as a way of life.

Then to become upset,
When it is suggested...
That perhaps they can begin,
Doing for themselves without relying upon,
Anyone else to demean when convenient.
Is an experience,
Those accustomed to facing challenges.
Obstacles to overcome.
And left alone to make their own decisions,
Could care less who says what...
About them,
Doing what was done for others to do...
Choosing no longer,
Tolerating being taken for granted.
And at 'their' expense.
