Near My Window Sill Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

Near My Window Sill

So silent always
Before my eyes
And beside my window sill
Climbing up the steep like that of a hill

Things clustered and tucked in to leaves
Swinging like pearls
One such a tree over
All day with a nod and smile me stir

I talk and sing with love-lit eyes
With a hope that she may rise
And touch my pulse and eye
With spring and gladden my heart alike

Alas she has lovers many
And three of them are very crazy
One coquets with her hours together
As if to idle away merrily this summer

Another swiftly sailing through the breeze
Alights on her with an enterprise
And that makes her happy, fulfilling and bright
For he feeds on and sweetly bites for sweet

And the day passes by
Drowsing forth his chant only
Charming her and his majesty
And not me for it is honey, honey and honey
As all day long he hums
But a tune of flattery it seems

And another captivated by the leafy murmur
And her beauty, essence and colour
Does flit and circle and circle
And then droop to delicious rest for a while
Takes a sip or two, a desire always cherished with being
Here or there happy having it as if gratifying
And then disappears where
Best known to him or his wings feathery

I see them all coming one by one or together
And depart but one till moon rises over
To beguile him with morn and a clover field
For I see him overhead
Humming a new ballad
Of treasure as if he has gained

I could not help but envy
For I am a lover too shy and lonely
Though never complain, nor rave, nor blush
I do heave the sigh of despair to see closer her face
And that is as good as a cool breeze passing by
For she waves gently with the sigh
Maybe gesturing love and hope and triumph
Oh, beauty, passing beauty I fell asleep

While thinking of you one evening
Weary and restless with vain waiting
Time passed into midnight
And midnight into morn I knew not
When and when you stole into my bed and into my sleep
Creeping in along with the sun kissing my cheek and lip
Were like a dream come true
When I saw you beside me through
Filling the cup of my heart full and still
With your cup of love brimming my window sill
