My Sanctuary Poem by Kwai Chee Low

My Sanctuary

Slowly I walked into the coolness of the woods,
serenity punctuated by the calls of birds.
Squirrels scamper amid the moving shadows,
cast by the leafy shade aloft,
as birds warbled their songs so soft.

Against the woody trunk of my friend I lay,
ensconced on leaves of brown and gray.
My mind and body a sweet surrender,
to the wood's earthy fragrant scent,
smell and sight a delightful blend.

A breeze blew its morning song,
the night's slumber seemed not too long.
I succumb to the early warmth of the sun,
the soft caress of falling leaves.
My sanctuary till the evening comes.
