My Greatest Ruse Poem by Aric Beers

My Greatest Ruse

Don't let it go to my head
Don't let my ego grow from what you said
Please don't encourage pride
Cause then you might find what I hide
You'll find the lie that never ends
You'll see the lie I told all my friends
Inside you'll see my fault
You'll find the truth I locked in a vault
The truth that I'm not so bold
I'm not as prideful as you've been told
My ego is just a pretty mask
An image in which to bask
Truth is I'm not that strong
Assumptions of pride are simply wrong
I'm weak and bound to lose
Once you discover my greatest ruse
