My Friend Poem by Stephanie Stamm

My Friend

If you had asked me, “Who is your friend?
‘Cause friends stick together ‘til the end, ”
Well, if I were to choose all the way through
I would say that my best friend is you.

Remember that time when we were little?
When we were as tiny as a kettle?
That time was the best time yet
Because that was the time when we had first met.

We liked the same things and liked dinosaurs
It felt as if we had suddenly soared
On a rocket ship going through and through
I felt as I was in the perfect place with you.

In third grade, we started a book.
Then everyone suddenly wanted to look.
At this time we felt at our best,
And it felt like we outstood the rest.

Every couple of months we went over
To each other’s house for a special sleepover.
We would throw popcorn, scare your dad
It was always the best time we ever had.

Before sixth grade, we went to Six Flags,
We always thought it was not a drag
We went swimming and rode every ride,
You and I were together, side by side.

Then there came that dreadful day,
You simply had to move away.
You dad got a new job, two states away,
I felt suddenly sad that sorrowful day.

After that, we e-mailed each other,
As usual, I told about my stupid big brother
Even though we were two states far away
We are still friends to this day.

Since friends always stick together ‘til the end…
You stick close to me until the end…
Whenever a bad time, you come to defend.
You are my forever-best friend.
