My Dear, Dear Daughter Poem by Troy Clark

My Dear, Dear Daughter

My daughter is the apple of my eye

and I love her greatly

For she's taught me so much

in the little time she's been on this Earth

Her smile clears the fog from my mind

Her eyes stare straight into my soul

my little bird can almost crawl now

and soon she'll even soar

She has her mothers attitude

as it changes on a whim

She has her mothers eyes

that piercing blue can see inside

and like her mother

it's easily seen

there's so much strength within

She has her fathers smile

and like him, she loves the morning

She has her fathers heart in the palm of her hand

and she's had it since the beginning

My love, my dove

my little mockingjay

If I could, I would

shield you from the gray

but know my dear, that gray is just a shade

and that colors do exist

and all you have to do

is learn to recongnize them

but the world, my dear

is full of up and downs

and I can only hope that once you fly

you'll never come back down

But if you do, I want you to know

that you're daddy's little girl

and I'll be here where ever you go

I'll never let you go, nope

Not even if you try

And I'll try my damn best

to never make you cry

And if I do, forgive me

for I know not what I do

but you should know

that if I do, it will tear my heart in two

Your smile, your personality

how your struggle to sit up straight

you flail your legs and arms in the cutest of ways

you can hold your own bottle now, and that is super great

I'm so proud of you Dae

I never thought, I never even imagined

that I would be able to love anything or anyone

as much as I love you

and so, I thank you dear

thank you.

You're great.
