My Bygone Poem by Babatunde Idowu Ebenezer

My Bygone

Rating: 4.5

My life stood still,
When you stopped loving me,
Yet the sun would not stop shining,
Brightly on the fatal wound in my heart,
Brightening the pains deep within me.
My life stood still,
When you let go of my hands,
And initiated my fall into the dark loveless abyss below.

They are asking me your name,
But how do I call your name,
When the memory of your face brings tears,
When the reminiscence of your appearance hurts deeper than gangrene?
You are the one who showed me the cruelty of love,
Your name is forever sealed in my heart,
Never to be called again.

You are my bygone,
My past that went with the shadow of yesterday,
My love story never written.
Like a December rain you came,
Soothing and calming,
You brought me peace,
You brought me happiness,
But now you are gone with the winds of the past.

It was difficult to wake up today,
Thinking of what story we could have written,
About our love and journey.
The tales we could have told our children,
Right there under the brilliance of the moon,
But you are gone, together with our story!

It is a mystery to me how you could move on without me,
Perhaps it is the one thing I failed to learn,
In all the happy moments together,
I just didn't see the need for it,
For I was sure you were there to stay forever,
But now forever you are gone,
Like a cloud before a rainbow,
And you left no rain behind.
