My Breath Haunts Me Poem by Breana DeHart

My Breath Haunts Me

Everything is wrong now…
I can’t remember when I became non human,
All I remember is what I do when I become what you are.
I remember what is wrong not what is right,
I don’t understand what I have become.
Only that I destroy everything that breaths.

My family scurries from me when I change,
They don’t understand that I cannot control this,
Only that I carry death on my lips.
They move through worlds, they call hell.
Moves through shadows that follow their every breath.
He moves through the shadow following close behind.
My heart is afraid, but my soul lurks for his darkness.

When I follow,
I become aware that he knows.
I become aware that he sees what I see.
He is behind me, every dark shadow I make.
Even though I follow, I realize that we are more alike
Than I wish.

May our memories come to haunt our past?
May it be the death of me, when I come to close to him?
I do not know who he is,
But I wish I can know before I die!
