Mr Purry's Gone Away Poem by Tom Billsborough

Mr Purry's Gone Away

Rating: 5.0

Mr Purry's gone away...
I saw him bounding down the lane.
It only seems like yesterday
Responding to his name.

Will you not come back again?
Will you not come back again?
Better loved you cannot be;
Will you not come back again?

Mr Purry's gone away...
He used to steal my daughter's chair.
It only seems like yesterday
So resolute as he stayed there.

Will you not come back again?
Will you not come back again?
Better loved you cannot be;
Will you not come back again?

Mr Purry's gone away...
He purred just like a motor car
It only seems like yesterday
I tickled him behind each ear.

Will you not come back again?
Will you not come back again?
Better loved you cannot be;
Will you not come back again?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One of my favourite songs is the Scottish ballad about Bonnie Prince Charlie. It was written by Carolina, Lady Nairn in his memory. I hope I may be forgiven for using parts of it for this poem.

Tom, Mr Purry has come back again, finally! Earlier today I wrote a poem called THE RETURN OF MR. PURRY, but I have not posted it yet. I have been reading all of your Purry poems to see if I could find a picture of him. Is that really a picture of him in the chair? I am going to assume that is him, and steal this picture to use with my poem. Let me know if the poem offends you, and I will remove it.

It is so sad to miss a loved pet....! This is a soulful cry for the cat to return. The refrain gives it a sad poignancy and a lyrical effect! . I too love cats, though not permitted to keep one as my husband has a bitter aversion to them.
