Morning Walk Poem by Colin Coplin

Morning Walk

Rating: 4.5

I saw the news today
Another war to end another war
The reporters face told us what he saw
But I didn't need to look
I'd seen it all before

Outside the paperboy walks past
Today's news held tightly in his grasp
Seconds later he lets fly
Scattered history cascades across the sky
His whistle blows and off he goes
Such a clever lad, pity about his dad

Everyday I go for my walk
To clear my head and think my own thoughts
Resting the sunrise on my back
Listening to the world around me, while humming a Beatles track

I love my morning walk

Jill the jogger lapped me again
Her hair in a pony tail and body tanned
She works high up in corporate law
Like her father did before he got caught
Across the street Jim was on his knees
Begging for some forgiveness please
Overnight the markets must have crashed
Billions lost on borrowed cash, all they reposed was his car

I love my morning walk

The Prime Minister looked up from behind his hedge
Gave a gentle nod, then went back to bed
I hope all goes well in parliament today
His chauffer hinted there'd be hell to play
I heard later he got rolled
I guess your never as good as your told

I love my morning walk

Again, the paper boy walks past
Today's news held tightly in his grasp
Seconds later he lets fly
Scattered history cascades across the sky
His whistle blows and off he goes
Such a clever lad, pity about his dad

Back home, I go for a bath
Life's good when your in love
Feel the bubbles burst on my back
Listening to the world around me, now humming a Dylan track

I saw the news today
While on my morning walk
