Mom By War Memorial ….. Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Mom By War Memorial …..

Having scanned the mile long list
discovered, she, at last the precise line
superman, hero, her own flesh and blood
she suckled, fed, adopted
and finally gifted to the nation
at the most appropriate time

Her eyes opened wide, instantly
narrowed down fleetingly and finally closed
squashing out warm salty love drops.
Straightened the bent back,
sighed in a heavy breath out and
on kneels, kept the rose, softly on floor.

Rises and steps back few paces
while eyes are still on the plaque
Stands straight with arms on chest
starts walking back in short strides
as a sweet smile ran across
her wrinkled gratified face.

The sacrifice of a mother is great. You have nicely and touchingly inscribed this here. Let few lines be quoted... Having scanned the mile long list discovered, she, at last the precise line superman, hero, her own flesh and blood she suckled, fed, adopted and finally gifted to the nation at the most appropriate time Beautiful poem on patriotism.
