Mocking Purr Poem by Randy McClave

Mocking Purr

I taught my dog how to fetch
And then I also taught him how to catch,
Then I taught him how to roll over and beg
And then I taught him how to play dead.
I also potty trained my dog
But, occasionally in my house he'll still drop a log,
And in other peoples houses he will occasionally pee
He sometimes enjoys embarrassing me.
On the streets or in the houses I will always clean up his mess
Training him was very hard I will confess,
And when he is happy or wants something he will bark
Especially when I take him to the park.
Now I will change the cat's litter box
Then I will allow him to play with my socks,
And whenever I hear the cat meow
I know that it needs something drastically and now.
Whenever I hear the the cat beginning to purr
I know that with me it wants to confer,
Maybe it wants to be held or maybe even stroked
Or maybe a desire or need I have invoked.
My cat will sleep or sit wherever that it wants to
My dog will sleep on his bed upon my cue,
Training my dog was frustrating and hard I will admit to that
But, then over there seemingly mocking is the cat.
