Mirage Poem by Uriah Hamilton

Mirage

One doesn't normally win
a woman's heart in a day.
Perhaps, a lifetime can be spent
thinking of her shoulders
or the color of her eyes
as if the time was merely a dream.

When last we met,
I asked her clearly,
'You understand how obsessed
I am with you? '

She gave me her acknowledgment
without protest or positive approval,
but it felt like success
to be beside her when there were times
I thought she was only a mirage
I'd never see again.

She still may vanish in the very next breeze
but I know we've both touched each other
and left an impression that past or future lovers
will never replicate or replace.
