Mind Sweeping Poem by Graham Fowell

Mind Sweeping

We are physically linked to every living thing
by the common biological thread of DNA,
giving us eyes with which to see the world
and skin to feel the sun.

If we could love all life,
have empathy for and actually feel
the life of all living things,
understanding the tombola of birth
and embracing our cohabitation,
we may come to understand real fulfilment.

It is not enough to simply look at an ant
or a frog or an antelope
and have a vague feeling of curiosity.
We must immerse ourselves in total unbridled empathy
and love every atom of the line to which we are connected.

It is not automatic,
but each of us has this ability
hard-wired into our DNA,
it is only a matter of finding it.
It is the only thing worth looking for
…and should be sought.
