Michelangelo Poem by Sebastian Seal

Michelangelo

Michelangelo knew a bloke called Dave,
He carved a statue of him with a face so grave.
Dave found this quite riling.
He asked, 'Why didn't you carve me smiling? '
To which Michelangelo replied,
'Don't complain, at least it's not cross-eyed'.

Michelangelo then did the hair on top,
Basing it on his favourite mop.
Dave thought it rather big.
He asked, 'Does that look like my wig? '
To which Michelangelo replied,
'Don't complain, it'll look better when it's dried.'

When the statue was complete,
Everyone could see from its head to its feet.
Dave was quite distressed.
He asked, 'Why did you carve me undressed? '
To which Michelangelo replied,
'Don't complain, there's nothing to hide'.

Dave took Michelangelo to court,
Suing him seemed like a good resort.
Dave criticised Michelangelo's deed,
The judge asked, 'How do you plead? '
To which Michelangelo replied,
'Don't complain, at least I tried! '.
