Miasma Poem by Ariana Love

Miasma

You spend your whole life watching the world pass you by
You spend every day defining what is true and what's a lie

The sun streams through the window illuminating your face
You stumble and fall just trying to find your place

You don't know where you stand so you decide to just sit
You're tired of this, there's nowhere you fit

You try to please everyone but you've forgotten yourself
There's no room for you, not even your health

Something inside's died in this miasma called life
The pressure and calamity was what put you under the knife

You've lost who you are and you don't know how to be found
You hold onto all the things you've been taught just trying not to drown

'You need to lose some weight' they say as you pull on size zero jeans
'Your hair looks too dull' so you brush it until it gleams

'Your face is too plain' causes you to cover it up
'Nobody cares what you think' makes you immediately shut up

Little voices you've known for as long as you were born
They're as dangerous as needles, they prick you like thorns

And as you watch the sun, start to set in the sky
You sit here in this poison, and once again...you try.
