Meet Me Where I Am

Just meet me where I am
I make no promise of a shift
There may be dings and damage
That comes with the life I've lived
Please carry no expectations
Or let your thoughts go black
When you gaze upon the ruins
Or the sins upon my back
I was born of imperfection
Raised on tainted grass
Then cast into the hellfire
Of a world that rules by class
I've stood beside the mountain
Were all the proud reside
They're living in the moments
Of all I've been denied
Yet I cannot weep in wonder
For all that's passed me by
Nor will I make excuses
Or try to justify
I rise-up every morning
My spirit can't be drowned
Despite the churning waters
I stand on solid ground
Not all were meant for diamonds
Or the shine of golden rings
Some can live quite sweetly
With so fewer things
I might have dreamt of riches
Back in my glory days
But age has brought a wisdom
That taught a better way
I'm happy in this moment
There's no way to take me down
I won't make useless promises
To turn your thoughts around
You can love the skin I live in
Or run for higher ground
But if your love is honest
You'll meet me where I am
