Medicine In Poetry: How To Know Your Depression? Poem by Dr John Celes

Medicine In Poetry: How To Know Your Depression?

Rating: 4.0

When I wake up each morning late,
And feel that something’s wrong with me,
I curse my birthday and my fate –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When I get up and feel not fresh,
And not a wink of sleep I’ve had,
I know all is not well with me –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When I feel sad and heart’s heavy,
I cannot concentrate on work,
I know something’s gone wrong with me –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When I get up to brush my teeth,
And it takes long a time to end,
Pre-occupied my mind appears –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When I find world unfriendly then,
I do not want to mix with men,
I live in world of my own one –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When I feel lazy to shave face,
And use tooth-paste as shaving cream!
I know not what’s happening to me –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When my assignments stay as such,
I feel it isn’t worthwhile living,
I’m angry with myself sans cause –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

When tasty food appears tasteless,
My libido remains downtrend,
I feel I am tired always –
It is a warning sign, ‘I am depressed! ’

Depression comes to anyone,
And can be masked at times in some;
Get over it by will, some can;
Some stay aware of it for long!

Either you must just fight it out,
Or listen to your doctor’s words;
Sulking is futile and can’t help;
Good counseling’s a must at first.

If you have suicidal thoughts,
And never share your stress with friends,
And cannot cope with your routine,
’Tis time to take your Doctor’s drugs!

All things are not by spirits caused;
Through prayer, you can change somewhat;
You must get o’er your depression,
Before its victim, you become!
Depression strikes the mind and heart,
And treatment is by drugs and art!
