Make My Day Poem by George Bernard Hough

Make My Day

It goes without having to say
that certain things can, make our day.
Dog, human being or cat
we all like to know where its at.
Charlie the african grey,
a nice brazil nut makes his day.
And Mollie our seventeen year cat
will kill for a prawn or a sprat.
Now mum likes a nice box of chocs
and dad sits and looks at the box.
But Quita our poodle just waits
and lovingly watches the gates,
each morning on our window box,
patient! alert! like a fox!
She watches for Linda, she`s one of her mates,
she`s bringing the post, she`s now at the gates.
Down from the window she`ll jump
landing with such a loud thump,
crossing the floor at great speed,
of our shouting she`s taking no heed!
Feet skidding on the smooth tiles,
squealing you can hear for miles!
As Linda delivers our post through the door
Quita collects it `fore it hits the floor.
If no post arrives for us on that day,
then Linda, big softy, will join in the play.
Not wanting to hurt Quitas feelings she will,
look for an item, her job to fulfill,
and push through the door, whatever she may,
watching the pleasure, as she makes Quitas day!
And Quita once more has taken her fill!
Prepare for tomorrow, and Linda? She will!
