Lubricant Poem by Pankajam Kottarath

Lubricant

Rating: 3.0

Sunrays dying away
she sits on the cane swing
hung in the long verandah
in her old, cozy house
enjoying the filtered breeze,
comes robbing
the delicious Jasmine,
thro the pores of
dried Ramacham blinds;
she takes on her wings.

Hot breath over her shoulders
she turns back, to see her man
with a caring gaze
in the corner of his wandering eyes
through the trails of wind
that plays mischief
over the well pleated folds
of her half white melmundu
and she returns.

His dreams are hers
Her dreams, his;
And as they trek as one
to the fortress of bonds
awareness unravels that
the aroma of life, moist,
becomes dense
in the weariness of time.

Ramacham - botanical name is vettiveria zizanioides (Cuscusgrass or Veerana)
Melmundu - traditionally worn by older women in Kerala
