Love For A Wounded Warrior Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

Love For A Wounded Warrior

Rating: 5.0

A frequent visitor to a veteran's hospital
is an attractive woman intelligent and petite.
She comes to see a soldier waiting for prosthetics
who was wounded in combat and lost his feet.

He cherishes her presence near his bed
and senses her endless devotion and love.
He feels that her assurances have fallen on him
descending like bricks from above.

He is always pleased to know of her concern
with a gentle smile on her face so fair.
He is aware that his future is in doubt
as he impatiently thinks about his medical care.

He appreciates her visitations but often skeptical,
All of his medical issues she will soon find,
but she always looked at him with pity and kindness
that restored freshness to his troubled mind.

One day he asks her, ' Why do you care about me?
I am a disabled, wounded warrior, truth be told.'
She takes his hand and softly replies,
' Your hand I will forever hold.'
