Lost Words Poem by priyanka choudhury

Lost Words

How quickly words flew out when you were there,
Love, jealousy, anger, hurt- how eloquently they filled up my lexis!
Now that you are gone
They are all gone too….
Yelled out or muttered in breathless whispers…
My words, they fell all around and dispersed in the air.
Oh, now I can find them nowhere.

To think that my fury would persist and to let you go,
That you had taken my words with you, how was I to know?
I grovel in the darkness trying to find them.

I looked everywhere, in my books, my poems, and my mirror-
Yet they were nowhere.
Finally, I looked into my hands you had so dearly held.
There they lay, alongside your memories,
Fair as a lily, pretty as a rose
Beautiful as yourself, wide-eyed as a little fawn
Their fervor everything but quelled.
