Lost Treasure Poem by Emily Gasperak

Lost Treasure

Waking up to the ocean just as the sun sets
Ready for another night of loneliness and regrets
Sick and tired of the world and all of it’s nonsense
Because I refused to follow everybody else’s concepts

How can I set sail to my future with a burning mast?
Each day I’m going nowhere because I’m still stuck in the past
So close to the edge, how’s time gone by so fast?
Now it’s overboard I go, hoping my endurance will last

Cold waves of fear and sorrow start to suffocate me
Rushing waves of my past dragging me deep
Lungs filling up quickly now, I can no longer breathe
It’ll be the first night in months ill be able to sleep

My body is weak now and I’ve given up the fight
Ready for my soul to be cleansed and take flight
I’m floating up and away towards the purest of light
For once in my life, everything feels just right

But with one sharp jerk, everything becomes clear
Wrapped in his embrace, I know there’s nothing to fear
With tender words of encouragement being whispered in my ear
The pressure on my chest becomes more severe

And as his lips touch mine, I feel warmth once again
Releasing my pain amongst the water within
The first thing that I see while looking up to him
Are his soft brown eyes and his gorgeous grin

Around his neck, dangled a golden key
With a name encrusted I could barely read
I stared for a moment, in disbelief
As he lifted me up so delicately

He clothed me in a long, garnet dress
And placed his hand upon my breast
Explained that his key belonged to a chest
That held a heart full of anguish and distress

As he read my name aloud, I began to cry
He kissed me softly, wiped the tears from my eyes
He searched for so long, his hoped had never died
Longing for his love, praying she was still alive

When he took me into is arms, I thanked the moon and the sun
For always shining the light we had placed our hopes upon
The ocean becomes torment, when you’re lost and alone
But even miles of the water could never sunder true love.
