Longing Poem by Alexa Lee

Longing

Rating: 5.0

I.

you ask me to choose,
but i have seen beauty in both worlds;
mine in its simple rusticity
yours in laughter and gaiety.

you ask why, and once more
i am in the warm sun, or caught
in a passing april shower.
awakened by a child's cry, i see
the children's faces. their
eyes, still innocent.
come, they say
let us go out to play!

forgetting my place, i go with them
but the wind blows that
away also.

II.

only yesterday, i walked
on the beaches
of the
island of dreams, and the
sea
lulled me to peaceful
slumber.

the flutes of the jungle gods wail
ancient tunes, mythical sounds
bearing seashells, the
maidens
descend
upon me.

III.

perhaps this is not your world. your
eyes
betray you: they tell
of your secret
longing
to belong.
