Loneliness Poem by Anthony Hartley

Loneliness

People looking amongst a crowd
yet seeing no one there.
Their lives a hollow emptiness,
their pastime is despair.

Sorrow stricken and dejected
their life feels overrun.
The broken heart leaves an empty shell
where once the soul was hung.

Had we have hugged them, and said we cared
or given a smile or two,
perhaps the sorrow that consumes their life
would not make them feel so blue.

So spread a grin across your chin,
and be willing to lend a hand.
For tomorrows heartache may be your own
and you may need a friend.
