Loaning Money Poem by Randy McClave

Loaning Money

The greatest piece of advice that was ever given me
Was, "if you loan someone money, give it for free",
Even if they give you their honor and their word
Just pretend that promise spoken, was never heard.
Don't ever fall victim to that one line
As it hurts, just as much as any burn, lie or crime,
Loan them the money to bring a smile to their face
Then after prayer and time, the pain will erase.
If someone ever asks you to loan them a dollar
If you do, and it's never returned do not scream and holler,
Just pretend that the money was just a caring gift
Then you will not feel lied to, and forgiveness will come swift.
So, remember, if you ever loan someone any money
Even if it's family, or someone you love and you call honey,
Loan the money for love and don't ever expect it's return
Then you'll be prepared, for that awful burn.
I remember the promise that I would be paid back
But, that truth and honor they did sorely lack,
Their word and their honor and name they swore to be true
But, all that I got was a broken promise, and a fading IOU.
