Little Children Poem by Lissa White

Little Children

Who will protect the little children
And keep them safe
Keep them from being beat
And facing life with defeat
Living in fear
Of those they are suppose to hold dear
Hear the little children crying
Little children dying
At the hands of those who love them
Life is so grim
No one hears their call
Ignores the tears that fall
People afraid to get involved.
Problem growing, never solved
The broken bones
And blacken eyes
Long sleeve shirts
And made up eyes
To cover and disguise
To cover all the lies
Don’t tell on Daddy
Don’t tell on Mommy
Shhhh don’t say a thing
Oh what a familiar ring
Crying out in pain
Nothing to gain.
Hurt damaged little children
Grow up to be adults
To abuse their own
To kill those who try to love them
It's all they know
Because no one claims fault
What lessons are we teaching
What goals are we reaching
When the lie continue
Once they are grown
Fear of their own
I cry at the pain
My tears fall like rain
Poor little children
Only wanting to be loved
Only wanting a hug
To feel as snug as a bug
What can I, as one person do
How can I change things
So I will tell my story
Of the lost little girl
Who was beaten and raped
How my life was shaped
By the horror in my life
Pain I cut through with a knife
I am stronger now
Overcoming it I shall
I speak out for the little children
And the lost little girl
I used to be
But now I am free
The hurt is in the past
At long last
Because I became brave
No longer scared’
No longer ashamed
Out of my cave
Of darkness I was saved
I think of the little ones
The daughters and sons
And wonder how they make a life
From all the fear and the strife
To become a husband of a wife
And continuing on the same path
Where they come from
Living in the dark
Has left its mark
On their soul
It has taken it’s toll
Growing up battered and beat
Not knowing to retreat
Please help the little children
To learn to be better
Then what they were
And where they came from
All it takes is just one
To change a childs life
Cut the umbilical cord with the knife
Putting the past where it belongs
Correcting the wrong
And the way they think
It’s the only link
To setting them free
And living life
As it should be
With out fear
Of holding those they love so dear
Sheltering them from the pain
There is so much to gain
For the next generation
And the children they raise
To forge into the future
As strong adults
No longer afraid
No longer scared
No longer marred
Free to be
Who they want to be
With out fear
When they look in the mirror
Not seeing the lost child
So tender and mild
But the person they have become
No longer lost, no longer alone
