Little Butterfly Poem by Brandon Owens

I saw you flutter by and you said to me
“Your hands are strong
But your touch is weak
I am moved by other things”

You carried the wind to me
Brushed against my skin and gave me a dream
There is no light to see nor air to breathe
So help me to understand why it is you can speak
“I can fly forever
Going no where
Because I believe”

I can feel the sand slipping underneath
I have no where to stand and you beat your wings
Landing against me light as a feather
I provide support for you
But how do I get back on my feet
“The Titan must fall
To destroy the world
And finally be tall”

My fingers trace through
A thousand tiny rocks and more coarse debris
Decaying mentality brings me to my knees
My body crumbles as the water loosens the bonds between
Forcing separation of the atoms I come apart at the seams
I can't help but notice through it all you remain whole
I can't save a distant memory of the girl who released my soul
Where will you be after I dredge The Abyss of Wrong Belief
To find the truth buried behind these scenes
“I'll be at the end of it
Where I always was
And where I'll always be”

Little butterfly so delicate and so sweet
Where did you go
The world was ending and everyone was pretending
That they couldn't see
I tried to show her but she wanted to flee
Are you the same way as all of them
Would you try to leave after I begin to bleed
I could rip off your wings so that you would stay with me
Now that I'm just left over bits of nothing
Could you even want me
Your words are heard silently in my dreams
“Finish unfolding the lies
Breaking the mystery
And becoming the light”

The destruction is complete and I have lost my form
When I stand I am taller than the trees
When I breathe I am the breeze
When I look at the world I am the light I see
But you are still different than me
Where were you and how can that be
“I had to leave so that you
Wouldn't break me, the butterfly
And try to recreate the girl I used to be”
