Litlle Seamstress Poem by Ma Eugenia Carrasco

Litlle Seamstress

You! You are guilty of the wrinkles you’ve got on the face,
This pure and lovely face.
Yet, are you really guilty?

Little seamstress, you! Or the society
Which modeled your face with suffering
I see you eager to sew this cloth to get food
And some milk for this child already in your arms.

And today! What about you? about this cloths you can’t give up
Because they are part of you, of your life.
How much could give this little girl you had before in your arms,
Not to see you stay awake through the night,
Not to see that day after day you start to see blindly.

Let down these cloths! And stay away from all this!
Come along with me running the fields,
Poor, I don’t want to see these hairs
Become snow,
Wait! Everything will change soon.

I want you young, happy, asleep;
As much as I feel proud to have you
My little seamstress.

This little seamstress that doesn’t give up the fight
And beat poverty.

The pride I feel
Is to have a seamstress mother,
What is a lot yet for me.
Yes Lord! This is a lot…

You’re that little pink petal,
Fragile, sweet, gentle and fearful,
You give it all and ask for nothing,

You are admired by men;
Keep going! Don’t look back;
Look at the future,
Look at yourself,
Fight for you, as, for the others,
You’ve already done a lot.
