Listen Poem by Elephant Cheryl

Listen

Please listen
To what I don't say
I wear a thousand
Masks
Because I am
Afraid
That as you get to know me
The masks come off
And you won't like what you see
I pretend to be strong
But diamonds can get scratched too
I pretend to be the healer
But even doctors get sick
I pretend to smile
But sometimes the sun gets hidden
Behind coulds
I am a kid on a train
Going through a tunnel
All I see is
Black
There is no light at the end
There is no end
I don't know If I can ever
Get out
I am a kid in the dentis's office
Waiting alone
Why is everyone rushing?
Where is mommy?
I want to go home!
I'M SCARED!
WHERE IS MOMMY?
Please listen to what I
Don't say
Because I listen
To what
You don't
My words are
Underlined with fear
Highlighted with pain
Bolded in anger
Someone erase my mistakes
Because I
Can't
Listen
Can you hear the waves
Of life's ocean
Pulling me in and out
In and out...
I'm drowning
In front of you
You can save me
But only if you
Listen
