Lime Juice Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Lime Juice

Lime juice

Went shopping with my list
-on the page was lime juice

In the shelf were bottles
-on glass, plastic sat labels…
-stories came to mind
-when reaching to pick one.

We were the shop owners
-grocers of those days
-almost sold everything
-from soap to crops, kerosene
-and fruits to dairies…
-same did we!

Line of work was longer
-we made own vinegar
-and lime-juice to pickles
-and much more…

Mahmood, my brother
- (was owner and master)
-would come back with the bags
-and boxes made of wood (for fruits)
-some filled with lime, lemon

Small they, were green
-and rarely yellowish
-I sat on a box and
-in front, a Taghar
- (a large and clay pot)
-took sharp knife, cut them, halved
-wooden bar on pot's mouth
-set each half on the bar, squeezed
-one by one…squashed
-with wooden carved roller
-then filtered and later
-poured the juice in bottles
-fresh juice, in times puffed
-like a child after milk…
-now set juice in basket with smile.
