Lights Have Darkened, My Beloved City Poem by Debasis Chatterjee

Lights Have Darkened, My Beloved City

Rating: 5.0

Lights have darkened, my beloved City
Dusk has descended
Benighting your enduring beauty
Obscuring your boundless feel of solidarity
Energy and struggling ability

There's no one, none at all, my precious City
To whom we may look up to
For fortitude and guidance through
The darkened tunnel to a new Dawn
Of radiant air, sparkling life full of free laughter and gaiety

All have vanished into the clutches of Time, my adorable City,
None has come anew to offer new hopes, fresh ideas
And fearless valor to fill us with grit to face the threats
None at all to lead the fight the desperate certainty
Of the deliberate onslaught on our very liberty and humanity

There's no one, none at all, my beautiful City
You are today forsaken
The everyday dead millions over your shoulders taken
You are today just the Undertaker to the Death inevitability
The Pallbearer of all our defiant struggles, our blooded fraternity

My Love, my City, my Good, Bad and the Ugly City!
My Forever Kolkata!
