Liars And Sinners Poem by Pita Nuba

Liars And Sinners

Always, I remember Emeka's sojourn
Back in the 90's before he became a surgeon
He told me stories of time past
Stories and tales that left me aghast
Some truths, other half truths, most lies
And under the clear skies at night he lies
Until the rains most nights come down in torrents
And then we run to our rooms and the low currents....
Emeka Okafor my brother was not a liar
He was simply a man who discovered he was a storyteller

I wanted to leave this until later,
The story of another friend who defined an era
He was the real definition of lie
Musa Abdullahi!
I Met him too during the great recession
He Had this terrible knack for omission
If you have read George Orwell's Animal Farm
You won't need much to understand Abdullahi's yarn
We were friends despite the rust
I always wanted him to be different despite all
But like one destined for the fall
Abdullahi just didn't know when to stop
And until we parted ways,
The man defended the worst... always.

Once, Abdullahi introduced me to Bola
Now, this is the worst of them all, a real baller
A witty character with a devious mind
Abdullahi told me he was a god who had the cash to grind
Wow!
His pocket was deep and I love honey
That special one that nothing could buy not even money
We became friends
We became the four friends...

Now, don't judge me for my choice in men
I am not that friend who was pure like a linen
I had my own flaws
Terrible things I kept within my jaws
Ugly stories I wouldn't dare say
Evil thoughts that may have changed my ways
Late at night I wondered how terrible I've been
I enjoyed their essence and this is a sin
We didn't judge ourselves
We upheld our vices like elves
Magicians that may have saved the world
But no, we used our ways to make it worse
