Letting Go Poem by Destiny Kohler

Letting Go

You had me from the time I was born,
I have been told that time flys,
But not for me,
You've had me for 19 years,
I can't stay with you forever,
Sometimes we have to do things on our own,
So I am doing this on my own,
I want to show you that I can do this and eventually make you proud,
I didn't mean to hurt you,
I never wanted to make you cry,
But you have to understand that I have dreams,
And coming out here is to help me persue them dreams,
I have been told over the years that I look like dad,
But I have your attitude,
I could believe that,
I am like you in many ways,
You always told me to not be like you,
But you are what I wanna be like,
You are my mom,
You are a wonderful person inside and out,
I miss you daily,
I have cried everytime I see you,
You think that it is hard to see me?
But do you ever think that maybe its hard on me too?
I have to tell myself that its not goodbye, its see you later,
We both knew that I would be leaving sooner or later,
Your having to let go,
But I will be home to see you soon,
And I promise to come back with that diploma,
I Love And Miss You!
