Letter Of Their Sins Poem by Lawrence Ji

Letter Of Their Sins

Rating: 5.0

The beginning act of the screenplay of disaster
a boy with a head riddled with holes from loneliness
a girl with a heart stained black with despair
with each beat together, memories flow thickly
they decided to call it love

a first stanza, a quiet step, a murmured word
and a dance in the moonlight
the boy unknowingly falls in love
knowing that he can't bring her anything but pain
a character’s noble sacrifice: to lock his love away
and yet
the first step towards ruin
a letter of their mistake
a tentative 'I love you'...

and the boy
poured his broken passion onto a violet pen
slowly leaking out his black madness
into an ear that would listen

and the girl
found herself lowering her barriers
finding healing, rest, safety
perhaps madness
or was it love?

yet slowly
does the second act pass
a time of happiness
where their letters of sin grow higher and higher
threatening to topple

relationship growing, fire melting, ice burning
to grow close was a mistake - the boy knew
and as the curtain closed on the second act
he chose
and gave his heart up

the final act draws near, the stage is flooded with red
petals rain down from a cold heaven
pretending to mourn the death of a forbidden love
as the god of fate once again pushed the boy and girl
away
far
gone

an intermission - where did he go?
the boy, alone once more
found the cloak of shadows he lost
and closed his heart once more
except a hole
just large enough for the girl

a storm - where did she come from?
as the shadows of a once pure love fell from
the girl
confused
tossed into the cruel world
found indecision and despair
slowly corrupting
twisting
forgetting
hating the love that once bound her
growing to hate
despise
the sleepless nights
the painful memories
that love she once felt
the boy she hated

A moment - the play is drawing to a close
as the actors leave the stage
the boy and girl -
the marionettes are pulled away
holding hands
towards cruel eyes
they fall back down
an spiteful angel and a grinning demon
with nothing
but the letter of their sin
to remember the past
