The Land Behind The Sunset Poem by Lawrence Ji

The Land Behind The Sunset

Rating: 5.0

A blank, bleak winter landscape,
the land of ice, snow, and unbroken dreams,
A young girl runs across the fresh snow,
the unbroken ice,
the place of dreams, still alive,
With a twinkle in her eyes,
black hair billowing,
a peal of laughter in her wake,
melting the hearts of those who hear,
despite her own heart of ice.

A land of summer and heat,
the land of dejection, death, and dead dreams,
A boy trudges across the poison
that is his homeland.
a hunch in his back,
a face of despair,
a voice of defeat,
with the fire of his soul and passion,
searching for an answer, a question,
perhaps an angel.

As opposites meet,
winter and summer embrace,
just as the sun kisses the moon,
and boy from the valley of death,
finds the girl from the field of hope.
And yet, the boy, suffering many losses,
does not wish to break the girl’s frozen heart,
not knowing that the fire of his essence
has already cracked her heart.

As the boy leaves the amorphous crossroads,
the girl feels despair beyond reason,
beyond logic,
beyond the limits of her mind.
and a maiden of ice,
traverses into the land of fire,
Where her heart melts
And the embrace of the boy,
Engulfs her essence.
The boy is heating up,
cooling down,
his heart breaks, then forms anew,
with the girl’s head against his chest,
he finds his answer,
his question,
perhaps his angel.

As their souls intertwine,
The fire of the boy melts the girl’s heart,
and the girl’s chaste soul refines the boy.
As they are falling,
falling in love.

Through the ravages of time,
they face opposition,
from the voices crying traitor
and the souls shunning them,
but they have each other’s arms
to fall into,
providing solace,
peace,
warmth,
safety,
love.

As eternity passes,
the two lost souls who have become found,
make passage to the land behind the sunset,
the land with flowers of gold,
fields of unbroken dreams,
where the dirt is mother-of-pearl,
and fiery zeal runs through the veins of the land.
The souls embrace,
enthralled,
captivated,
by each other~~
in the land behind the sunset.
