Lesson Learned Poem by Dan Barrett

Lesson Learned

I was a boy, didn't know what to do
Things went wrong, thought it was you
Took you for granted, what a shame
Without you here it isn't the same
Can't take back all of the wrong
Don't know why it has taken so long
To see what I should have long ago
If I could go back with what I know
You would be here right by my side
Can't even say that I really tried
I'm sorry for the pain and the tears
I can't give back those precious years
I tried to move on, doesn't feel right
Your face is still what I see at night
Didn't know then but sure do now
Who is important just don't know how
To prove to you that I have changed
That my priorities have been rearranged
That I will always be here for you
To support you in everything you do
It won't be easy to make you see
The man I can, and am going to be
You will see I have changed my ways
And can make you happy for the rest of your days
