Learning Poem by Ray Hansell

Learning

Rating: 5.0

As I grew up
I learned the rules
So I wouldn't be
Nobody's fool

I followed them all
Did as I was told
For I knew if I didn't
They were going to scold

It seems no matter
How I tried
Most often times
I was denied

At times they said
I broke the rules
'Cause I made them look
Like the fools

At times I tried to tell them
That they were wrong
No matter how much I protested
They always stood strong

You see when I was young
Adults said, they know more than I
In some instances yes
But I always lost no matter how hard I tried

But I couldn't let on
At times I was smarter
Because then things
Could be become much harder

Soon I learned it was an ego thing
For they had this need to be right
That's when I learned early on
There's no use in putting up a fight
