Leaflets From My Life - My Grandpa's Farm House

Rating: 5.0

Lucky children are blessed with presents-
Gifts of untiring, pouring love of Grandparents!
Loved and cared by Grandma,
Guided and educated by Grandpa,
Lovely days of carefree moments,
Grand days of fun-filled movements!
Loving hours of pampered care,
Gorgeous hours of fulfilled fare!

Two years of innocent, playful life!
Tender years with my grandparents
At the age of six and seven,
Along with my younger sister,
Running and exploring nature in our farm
Racing to pluck flowers in the bushy swarm,
Trying to catch butterflies darting around with charm
Training the little puppies and pussy cats to cuddle warm!

Another chance, when I was sixteen going on seventeen!
A naïve girl, packed off to my native village
Alone, this time, to stay with my Grandparents,
Again, to spend quality time with the astounding nature,
Amidst the spectacular variety of birds twittering,
Around trees that whispered divine preaching,
All wondered! How a teenager's time would be passing,
Alas! Little did they know what I was gaining!

Meaningful years with
My adorable grand parents, in a
Mansion like huge house, with
Many rooms, many windows and a
Majestic corridor, stretching from end to end, with a
Mind space that expanded and breathed into the open blue sky!
Magnetic nature's paradise,
Marvellous life ticking away at leisure!

A huge Kadamba tree stood with élan,
A fragrant tree with bright yellow flowers
The fragrance wafting in the breeze into every hamlet
The house of the exotic Kadamba flowers!
Every flower picked up with reverence to be placed at the shrine
Every girl loved its heady scent to adorn her thick dark hair so fine
Sun's brilliant rays streaming in with opulence
Shadows cast away into the distant horizon!

Towering Coconut trees lined imposingly,
Tall trees with so many life saving fruits
Much above the fruit trees - protecting,
Many flowering trees bowing so generously,
Mango tree with its striking orange yellow fruits,
Mulberry shrubby trees standing unassumingly,
Pungent pink berries and sweet purple berries
Plantain trees with golden yellow bananas!

Wonderful breeze!
Winding its way from the mountains,
Wayward prankster,
Weaving forcefully around all leafy trees!
Wandering about like a crazy freak,
Watchful birds ready to take off in a flight,
Wavy swings tossed up and down
Wild wind laughing in a burst of delight!

When the rains came pouring,
With thunder and lightning flashing,
Pounding down on the tiled roof with deafening measure,
Pure joy cuddled in my grandmother's arms!
Precious moments of
Unspoken words,
Undefined pleasure,
Unwritten memories!

Hi Geeta, A very nostalgic poem, not just about nature, but about your love for your grandparents too. It is said often that parents have little time to devote to their children, because they would be working hard on their career, life, making money etc. But when they grow old and retire, they have enough time though their children no longer need their time and attention. So they give all their love, unspent on their children, to the grandchildren. A a recepient of such love from my grandparents, I can vouchsafe how the grandchildren need the love and affection of the grandparents. Nice poem. Thanks for sharing.

This poem has brought a torrent of nostalgic memories in me, not of growing up with my grand parents, (by the time I was a child, my grand parents were too old) but of my stay at my parental home with a big homestead among coconut trees and paddy fields and a number of fruit trees within the compound. Those were days of great fun! Thank you for reviving those memories....!
