Lay Me Down Low Poem by pauline miller

Lay Me Down Low

Lay me down low in the garden of Avignon
Aside my cypress sisters erect and tall
With the smell of lavender at my head
And the sweet, smell of jasmine,
Growing on the wall.

Lay me down low beside the wedding tree
The Pagoda Dogwood that blooms white in spring
So I can hear the blackbird and song thrush,
The robin and the wren in symphony sing.

Give me a blanket of silken grass
With daisies at my feet
Give my head a cushion of velvet moss
Where the ladybirds meet and greet.

And when the heavens display their glory
In silvered jewels against indigo dye
Happily will I dream on forever
Of a life fulfilled by you and I.
