Last One Poem by Michael Ernst

Last One

Rating: 4.0

They come in many sizes
And I've had more than just my share
Short, medium, tall, I have held them all
And my trouble started there

It was never hard for me to find one
Seems they were everywhere I went
Stores, clubs, barbecues, and any sporting event

I should have changed my foolish ways
Once I met the true love of my life
And honored the vows I made to her
When she agreed to be my wife

But to many nights I cheated
Left her on her own
Wondering why she wasn't enough for me
Crying and all alone

Over the years many a seductress these fingers touched
And though at the time they filled me
Soon I left them empty and often crushed

They all felt right in my hands
As I brought them to my lips
Drinking in their nectar
Erasing my guilt and shame with tiny sips

Those days are gone forever
But far too late she did say
The last one was the last one
And drove my one true love away

Now you may ask yourself, Who was this last one?
The one that destroyed the world of this foolish man
No, she is not of flesh and blood
This mistress came in a blue and gold aluminum can

This is a great poem! Particularly effective with the twist at the end...
