Land Of The Dead And Living Dead Poem by bassey etuk

Land Of The Dead And Living Dead

Pungent effluvia, choking stench and fear grips the land
Dry bones, rocks and no water, emptiness, smoldering landscapes and dry, dry land
The birds and animals all deserted but for vultures and hyenas having a feast
Plants and trees withering like petals under the scotching sun
Barrenness, infertility, death and near death

War, bombings, suicide, terror and man made " birds" roam the skies!
Agents of death and death of agents
The rain falls in distant land and when it rains, destruction and death
The young and strong all deserted and captives in foreign land
Only the dotards and old stay to till the dusty rusty land of death and destruction
The soil oozes poison and poisoned stunted plants sprout like malnourished vermin

How did this happen?
Where and when did we go wrong? Who? How? Why?
Sighs! Questions and unanswered questions but still questions to answer
Politics! Politicians! Criminals! Thieves! Wolves! Filthy politics. Religion! Thugs! Pigs!
Line your pockets with the commonwealth. Build mansions in foreign lands!
Loot! Loot! Steal! Steal! Flashy cars! Opulence and squandermania! Thugs and rapists!
Foreign bank accounts, laundering, scheming, killings! Disappearances! Power and more power

And the land bleeds! Children starve. Kidnappings. Death of the undead and unborn
Still-births and maternities become deathtraps! And death a deliverance!
Hospitals filled with decaying corpses and the blood of the innocents flow in the streets
Contorted mangled bodies riddled with shrapnel and assassin's bullets adorn the streets
A land once filled with laughter…now full of tears and blood
And the ghosts of the violently untimely departed roam in perpetual anguish
Even religion brings no succor but harbinger of death, violence and mayhem
We have seen the best of out times! Lost generation lost in generations lost!

Holy Cow. Those are words I've never experienced in my entire life. Except infertility.
