Know’st Thou Me Yet? Poem by Marcus McKinley

Know’st Thou Me Yet?

Rating: 5.0

In mask, I know thee not
Such vile words off tongue does drip
In hands my ears I swathe
Guarding this my conscious unto despair
I am stolen, picked like pocket
By the wisps and whips of breath foretold
Held in hand by loathsome stranger
To my wits and daggers hold
Pallid now I, untouched in mantle
And thus, mortally wounded in heart
I plea upon my last exhale
Unveil and reveal to me my part

This is one of those poems I had to read about 5 times in order to grasp even a partial understanding of its meaning. Even now, I'm not certain what the mask is a symbol of. I did however get that this masked person said very hurtful things that wounded you deeply. I could never write like that...that was fantastic
