I am most definitely NOT a cat/kitten person. Dogs and birds are my companion animals of choice.B-U-T i have cat loving friends and in deference to them I treat their companion animals with respect, and guess what? I am always getting scratched. But your poem could be a metaphor for any number of experiences when we let our guard down c-a-r-e-l-e-s-s-l-y and pay the price. Hey, anyone want to climb the sandstone cliffs overlooking the Mississippi River? Come on, it'll be fun!
