Karma Poem by Luise Carmen

Karma

Some things stand the test of time
Some things never change
I am at a junction my friend
Frozen and affected by the wheel's turn
Time standing still, paused
Like it did centuries before
And the stillness in me
Is not peace my friend
But I, holding my breath
With anticipation
And frozen in fear
Because I know what is to come
That old familiar design
That ties us together
That constraint that binds us
Needlessly because of promises made
In haste
I have wondered aimlessly
Lost without you
Only half full
Searching and waiting
Unconscious, Asleep
Until the dawn came
Life did not begin my friend
Until as promised we crossed paths
Repeating patterns, repeating themes
Archetypes of loss and grief
And shame and guilt
In you I've felt a thousand
Sad endings to different lives shared
In you I've had the greatest joy
And countless bittersweet memories
That seal the void in my soul
And make my tired heart ache
I want to turn away from you
Knowing what is to come
But I'm compelled to
Finish this one last round with you
Hoping to free us of this bind
My love for you is as seamless
As the expanse of our souls
Still I must turn away
To end the unending
To make good on our promise
And make right what has gone before
