World Weary Soldier Poem by Luise Carmen

World Weary Soldier

You there, the warrior
Warfare your maxim
Your modus operandi
Anything that's worthwhile
Is worth fighting for right?
Is love your own private war?
With strategies mapped out?
With defences up?
Armed and dangerous;
You're an artful combatant
With your camouflage on
You're a chameleon
With different faces
For different spaces
Your fort is fortified
Hyper-vigilant, ready, poised
For defence, subversion, subjugation
Perversion, destruction
Smoke and Mirrors
Scars worn like badges of honour
Testament to strength, tenacity, power
You think love is a war with
Winners and losers
A contest worth fighting for
It's just a test, to measure against
For a world-weary soldier like you
