Karela Poem by George Tumaob Calaor

Karela

(English translation below)

mahal... kasama... mag-ingat palagi kayo diyan.

while the ocean
kisses its waves
to the shore
and the night birds
sing sweetly their harana
to the silence of the night...
and flowers bloomed
their buds to welcome
the glowing hours
of the moon...

I am thinking of you my love.

I am thinking if you have safely
tied the ropes of your cradle
that will carry the weight of the while of your rest
from the day of a victorious offensive
you and our comrades have drawn
against the barbaric soldiers of the fascist.

I also throw a smile to the glowing moon and winking stars
thinking of the weapons that you and our comrades
have gotten from the dead arms of the dying state.

darling... ours here too, are days
of embering fight in advancing bungkalan
our form of reclaiming the land
from the grabbing greed
of the despotic landlords.

I am looking forward that we will be reunited
as our path meet at the triumphant moment
of people's protracted war!

Take care my love...

my comrade!
