Just Hold On, We're Going Home. Poem by Pablo Gonzalez

Just Hold On, We're Going Home.

Long for me, like shipwrecked sailors long for shores
I enchant you with my eyes like the tender ember of the log
I tickle your neck like a feather from your pillow
Ride on the loving whispers from my lips, like the prophets on pegasus
I'll make it rain pearls for you to walk through
i'll offer the Gods a dandelion everyday
make men bow under your heels
My purpose in life is to wash your feet
like the bubbles from waves that indulge you
when you take your first steps into the ocean

You know i'm the snare and the bass drum that gives rhythm to your walk
the angels that fly from your vocal chords and make your voice resonate
across the board rooms, into your new lovers ear,
i've nibbled those ears, i've pulled your hair
i've tasted your neck, and now i'm no longer there
but you know i'm that anticipation, that tingling sensation on the back of your neck, that feeling that someone's there with their breath.
Every time that happens, that's me.

i'm the ghost who showers with you,
that day dream of me standing in the doorway,
my head leaning in to ask you if you need anything.
Even if i'm not there you still smell my cooking,
white wine in your dinners, complicated recipes
with love endlessly.

an empty glass of water left standing for the day,
that's me,

Your judgment of other men compared to me, the lies you've probably heard
and you've accepted,
that's not me, but you've probably made it me.

The veil that was drawn over our eyes
the lies told from burnt faces
the violator of dreams,
